Williamsburg

Williamsburg, a neighbourhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, aka ‘Little Berlin’ , has become an artist mecca and cultural hot spot.
 
Starting in the late 1990’s, with its art scene, culture, and nightlife, Williamsburg has transformed into a hipster heaven.
 
The Williamsburg Bridge, the world’s longest suspension bridge until 1924, featured in this design, runs across the East River and connects the Lower East Side of Manhattan with Williamsburg. It was completed in 1903.
 
First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Lenape inhabited this area. 
 
In 1638, the Dutch West India Company purchased the area's land from the Lenape First Nations people.
 
Williamsburg was an independent city until 1855.
