First settled by Joseph Sheppard in 1798, a colourful fur trader who built a log cabin on Yonge close to what is now his namesake Sheppard Ave.
First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Mississaugas, Seneca, Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat, inhabited this area.
