Thornbury
The Village of Thornbury, at the base of the Niagra Escarpment and foot of the Beaver River, is known for its fine restaurants, shops, galleries, and cute little beach, pier, and harbour.
Thornbury township was founded incorporated in 1883, with its first business, a milling operation, following shortly after in 1885.
Thornbury is located within the boundary of Treaty 18 region of 1818, which is the traditional land of the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples, who established communities and a complex network of trading routes. They transformed the landscape to accommodate agriculture and hunting practices.
