Sauble Beach, now (2025) renamed as Saugeen Beach, is a beach community on the eastern shore of Lake Huron.

 

Sauble beach is the second longest freshwater beach in Canada. The water is warm and shallow on account of the sandbars on the shoreline.

 

Following a series of court cases brought by the Saugeen First Nation to the Ontario Supreme Court and a failed  appeal by the town of South Bruce Peninsula dismissed by the Supreme Court of Canada, On July 1, 2025, the Saugeen First Nation changed the "Sauble Beach" sign to read "Saugeen Beach."

 

First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Ojibway, Wendat, and Anishnabe/Anishinabek inhabited this area.

 

The first European settler was John Eldridge, who built a cottage nearby in 1877.
