The town of Perth in Eastern Ontario was established as a military settlement in 1816.
First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Iroquois, Huron-Wendat, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee, inhabited this area.
Perth shares its motto, "Pro Rege, Lege et Grege" ("For the King, the Law and the People"), with the City of Perth in Scotland.
But don't confuse this with the previous motto,"Festina lente sed certo" ("Make haste slowly but surely"), found on the uniforms of the Perth Citizen's Band, founded in 1850 and still performing today.
