Leslieville

SKU: 36

Leslieville, described by the NY Times as 'Toronto's hippest place to dine, drink, shop and live', has served as the backdrop for numerous film and TV productions including 'Cindarella Man'.

Leslieville began as a small village in the 1850s, around the Nurseries owned by George Leslie and sons, after whom the community is named. Most of Leslieville's residents were gardeners.

Composer Alexander Muir (The Maple Leaf Forever) was the first principal of the Leslieville Public School, one of the first buildings in the village.

Prior to the 17th century, the area would have been inhabited by First Nations people including the Mississaugas, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples.
