Innisfil
Innisfil, situated on the western shore of Lake Simcoe, just south of Barrie, and about 65km north of Toronto, offers a unique balance between urban and rural.
Innisfil derives its name from the Irish Inis Fáil, an ancient mythological name for Ireland.
For over 10,000 years the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples inhabited this area.
The aea was first surveyed in 1820, and settled by the Hewson and Soules families, who built a sawmil at Big Bay Point, where the lumber was made for the first frame house in Innisfil (1829).
Current Innisfil is a vibrant downtown waterfront, with both a live stock car racing speedway, and an idylic Harbour with a Nature Preserve.
Looking for festivals? Look no further, with both an Outdoor Film Festival, and our personal fave, the Innisfil Onion Festival , what more could you want?
Innisfil Beach, featured in this design, is a gateway to the many recreational activities, like swimming, boating, and sailing, enjoyed on "the beautiful" Lake Simcoe.
