Hastings

SKU: 201

Hastings, is a super friendly fishing town along the Trent–Severn waterway. In 2012 the World Fishing Network named Hastings as “Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town”.

As early as 1615 it was thought that Samuel de Champlain may have visited the area. However, it wasn;t until 1810, when James Crooks purchased land by the rapids at the north end of Rice lake that European settlement truly began.

First Nations, including the Mississauga, Algonquin, and Hiawatha First Nation of the north shore, dating back over 10,000 years, inhabited the area, and called the nearby lake (now Rice Lake) Pemadashdakota or "lake of the burning plains".

Lock 18, featured in this design, is a national historic site along the Trent-Severn waterway. Constructed between 1908 and 1912, with its predecessor, a masonry lock of 1838 at Crooks Rapids, is the last lock before entering Rice Lake.
