Bracebridge
Bracebridge, built around a waterfall on the Muskoka River, was first incorporated in 1875.
Settlement began in 1860 with a few log huts.
First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Anishinaabeg inhabited this area. Muskoka, was named after Musquakie (William Yellowhead), a key Anishinaabeg negotiator with the British during the mid-nineteenth century.
The falls and Bracebridge Bay offer a scenic base to admire the historic downtown and the town’s many beaches, parks, and boating opportunities. Nature lovers, thrill seekers, art lovers, shoppers, festival goers, and foodies will all find a full plate in ‘The Bridge’ .
Be sure to enjoy a stroll on Bracebridge’s Historic Walk.
On a personal note, Carolyn, the Artist and founder of LocalesDesign, was born in Bracebridge!
