Beaver Valley

SKU: 128

Beaver Valley, in the Grey Highlands, is a four season playground of natural beauty. From paddling on the Beaver River, hiking the trails at Hogg’s and Eugenia Falls, Kimberley Forest and Old Baldy, to swimming in Lake Eugenia or skiing at Beaver Valley Ski club, you quickly understand why this locale is recognized by UNESCO.

The valley itself was formed over thousands of years as the Beaver River cut into the Niagara Escarpment. The Valley’s main towns are Flesherton, Kimberley, and Thornbury.

First Nations, dating back over 10,000 years, including the Ojibway, the Wendat (Huron), and the Tionontatehronnon (Petun) inhabited this area.

Early settlers included William Hogg, who built a sawmill in the late 1870’s just north of Flesherton, and later in 1893 he completed a small Hydro Generating Station on the Beaver River, which powered the lights in Eugenia and Flesherton.

Beaver Valley is also a prime agricultural area, well known for its apple crops.
