Athol
SKU: 182
Athol, named in 1835, is now one of the ten wards of PEC. Athol derives its name from Gaelic and means “New Ireland”.
Point Petre Lighthouse (1832), featured in this design, marks the southern tip of PEC.
First Nations, including the Wendat (Huron), Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), and Mississauga,
dating back over 8,000 years, inhabited the area. There were once over 500 first nations villages in PEC, and a population larger than the current one.
Samuel de Champlain came through the area in 1615.
